Navy Officer Nominations Dated September 2011

Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta announced today that the President has made the following nominations:

Navy Rear Adm. William D. French for appointment to the rank of vice admiral and for assignment as commander, Navy Installations Command, Washington, D.C. French is currently serving as commander, Navy Region Southwest, San Diego, Calif.

Navy Rear Adm. Timothy M. Giardina for appointment to the rank of vice admiral and assignment for as deputy commander, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. Giardina is currently serving as deputy and chief of staff, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert announced today the following assignments:

Rear Adm. (lower half) Douglas J. Asbjornsen will be assigned as reserve deputy commander, Navy Region Northwest, Bangor, Wash. Asbjornsen is currently serving as reserve deputy commander, Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command, San Diego, Calif.

Capt. Sandra E. Adams, who has been selected for the rank of rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as reserve deputy commander, Navy Region Midwest, Great Lakes, Ill. Adams is currently serving as senior advisor to the minister of defense for personnel and education, NATO Training Mission Afghanistan/ Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Thomas H. Bond Jr. will be assigned as director for Command Control Systems, J-6, Headquarters North American Aerospace Defense Command and director architectures and integration, J-6, headquarters U.S. Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. Bond is currently serving as director, CJ6, U.S. Forces, Iraq.

Capt. Mark L. Leavitt, who has been selected for the rank of rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as reserve chief of staff, Naval Air Forces/Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, San Diego, Calif. Leavitt is currently serving as reserve deputy commander, Navy Region Midwest, Great Lakes, Ill.

Capt. Jon G. Matheson, who has been selected for the rank of rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as reserve deputy commander for fleet management, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Va. Matheson is currently serving as chief of staff, Don't Ask/Don't Tell Navy Repeal Implementation Task Force, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Luke M. McCollum will be assigned as reserve deputy commander, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, Virginia Beach, Va. McCollum previously served as commanding officer, U.S. Fleet Forces Command Joint Task Force Unit 300, Norfolk, Va.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Jeffrey R. Penfield will be assigned as commander, Fleet Readiness Centers, Patuxent River, Md. Penfield is currently serving as director, capabilities integration and interoperability, Patuxent River, Md.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Robert P. Wright will be assigned as reserve deputy commander for fleet and joint operations, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Va. Wright is currently serving as reserve deputy commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.34

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced today the following assignments:

Rear Adm. (lower half) Victor M. Beck will be assigned as deputy, chief of information, Washington, D.C.34 Beck is currently serving as director, public affairs office, International Security Assistance Force, Afghanistan.

Rear Adm. Michael W. Broadway will be assigned as special assistant to the deputy, chief of naval operations, N2/N6, OPNAV, Washington, D.C.34 Broadway is currently serving as deputy for concept, strategies and architecture, N2/N6FC, OPNAV, Washington, D.C.

Rear Adm. Steven Eastburg will be assigned as vice commander, Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md.34 Eastburg is currently serving as program executive officer, air anti-submarine warfare, assault and special mission programs, Patuxent River, Md.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Paul A. Grosklags, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral, will be assigned as program executive officer, air anti-submarine warfare, assault and special mission programs, Patuxent River, Md.34 Grosklags is currently serving as vice commander, Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md.

Capt. Joseph W. Kuzmick, who has been selected for promotion to Rear Admiral (lower half), will be assigned to director, operations and plans, N31, OPNAV, Washington, D.C.34 Kuzmick previously served as special assistant to N88, OPNAV, Washington, D.C.

Rear Adm. Jeffrey A. Lemmons will be assigned as director, Inter-American Defense College, Washington, D.C.34 Lemmons is currently serving as principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for readiness, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, D.C.

Rear Adm. Patrick E. McGrath will be assigned as deputy commander, Third Fleet, San Diego, Calif.34 McGrath is currently serving as commander, Naval Air Force Reserve/vice commander, Naval Air Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet, San Diego, Calif.

Rear Adm. Christopher J. Paul will be assigned as reserve deputy commander, Navy Surface Force, Atlantic, Norfolk, Va.34 Paul is currently serving as deputy commander, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, Norfolk, Va.
