Navy Officer Nominations Dated July 2011

Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta announced July 21, the President has made the following nominations:

Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert for reappointment to the rank of admiral and for assignment as chief of naval operations, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Greenert is currently serving as vice chief of Naval Operations, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Vice Adm. Mark E. Ferguson III for appointment to the grade of admiral and for assignment as vice chief of naval operations, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Ferguson is currently serving as deputy chief of naval operations for manpower, personnel, training, and education, N1, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and Chief of Naval Personnel, Arlington, Va.

Vice Adm. Cecil E. D. Haney for appointment to the rank of admiral and for assignment as commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Haney is currently serving as deputy commander, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.

Vice Adm. Harry B. Harris Jr. for reappointment to the rank of vice admiral and for assignment as assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Harris is currently serving as commander, Sixth Fleet/commander, Striking and Support Forces NATO/ deputy commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe/deputy commander, U.S. Naval Forces Africa/joint force maritime component commander Europe, Naples, Italy.

Vice Adm. Scott R. Van Buskirk for reappointment to the rank of vice admiral and for assignment as deputy chief of naval operations for manpower, personnel, training, and education, N1, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and Chief of Naval Personnel, Arlington, Va. Van Buskirk is currently serving as commander, Seventh Fleet, Yokosuka, Japan.

Rear Adm. Scott H. Swift for appointment to the rank of vice admiral and for assignment as commander, Seventh Fleet, Yokosuka, Japan. Swift is currently serving as director for operations, J3, U.S. Pacific Command, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced today the following assignments:  

          Rear Adm. (lower half) Mark J. Belton, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral, will be assigned as commander, Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group, Williamsburg, Va.  Belton is currently serving as reserve director, supply, Ordnance and Logistics Operations Division, N41, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C. 

          Rear Adm. (lower half) Sean S. Buck will be assigned as commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Group, Norfolk, Va.  Buck is currently serving as commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Fifth/Seventh Fleet, Misawa, Japan. 

          Capt. Althea H. Coetzee, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as executive director, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Acquisition and Procurement), Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Research, Development and Acquisition) Washington, D.C.  Coetzee previously served as reserve program manager, Detachment 106, N4, Military Sealift Command, Washington, D.C. 

          Rear Adm. Janice M. Hamby will be assigned as military deputy to the Chief of Information Office, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration, Washington, D.C.  Hamby previously served as vice director of command, control, communications, and computer systems, J-6, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. 

          Capt. Kerry M. Metz, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as deputy commander, Special Operations Command, U.S. Central Command, MacDill AFB, Fla.  Metz is currently serving as commander, Naval Special Warfare Group Eleven, San Diego, Calif. 

          Rear Adm. (lower half) Gregory M. Nosal will be assigned as commander, Carrier Strike Group Two, Norfolk, Va.  Nosal is currently serving as associate director, Assessment Division, N81D, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C. 

          Capt. Scott A. Stearney, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as commander, Joint Enabling Capabilities Command, U.S. Transportation Command, Suffolk, Va.  Stearney is currently serving as chief of staff, Strike Force Training Atlantic, Norfolk, Va. 

          Capt. John F. Weigold, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as deputy commander, Seventh Fleet, Yokosuka, Japan.  Weigold is currently assigned as reserve special assistant to commander, U.S. European Command, Vaihingen, Germany.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced today the following assignments: 

            Rear Adm. (lower half) George W. Ballance, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral, will be assigned as director, Maritime Partnership Program, U.S. Naval Forces Europe/Africa, Naples, Italy.  Ballance is currently serving as deputy commander, Seventh Fleet, Yokosuka, Japan.

            Rear Adm. Samuel J. Cox will be assigned as director of intelligence, J2, U.S. Cyber Command, Fort Meade, Md.  Cox is currently serving as director, National Maritime Intelligence Center, Washington, D.C.

            Rear Adm. (lower half) James W. Crawford III will be assigned as commander, Rule of Law Field Force-Afghanistan.  Crawford is currently serving as legal counsel to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C.

            Rear Adm. (lower half) Sean R. Filipowski will be assigned as deputy director of operations, J3, U.S. Cyber Command, Fort Meade, Md.  Filipowski is currently serving as director, Cyber, Sensors and Electronic Warfare, N2/N6F3, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.

            Rear Adm. (lower half) Martha E. G. Herb will be assigned as deputy commander, Navy Personnel Command, Washington, D.C.  Herb is currently assigned as chief secretariat, Military Technical Agreement Joint Coordinating Body, International Security Assistance Force, Afghanistan.

            Rear Adm. (lower half) Matthew J. Kohler will be assigned as deputy commander, Fleet Cyber Command/deputy commander, Tenth Fleet, Fort Meade, Md.  Kohler is currently assigned as deputy chief, Tailored Access Operations, S32, National Security Agency, Fort Meade, Md. 

           Capt. Willie L. Metts, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as deputy chief, Tailored Access Operations, S32, National Security Agency, Fort Meade, Md.  Metts is currently serving as director of intelligence, J2, U.S. Cyber Command, Fort Meade, Md. 

            Rear Adm. (lower half) Jan E. Tighe will be assigned as director, decision superiority, N2/N6F4, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.  Tighe is currently serving as deputy director of operations, J3, U.S. Cyber Command, Fort Meade, Md.

 

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced today the following assignments: 

            Capt. Richard W. Butler, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as head, Naval Aviation Programs, N880, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.  Butler is currently serving as chief of staff, Naval Air Forces/Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, San Diego, Calif.

            Capt. Matthew J. Carter, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Fifth/Seventh Fleet, Atsugi, Japan.  Carter is currently serving as executive assistant to the commander, U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

            Capt. Lawrence E. Creevy, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as fleet maintenance officer, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.  Creevy is currently serving as executive assistant to the commander, Naval Sea System Command, Washington, D.C.

            Capt. Christopher W. Grady, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as deputy chief of staff for operations, training and readiness, N3/N7, U.S Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  Grady is currently serving as executive assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.

            Capt. Robert V. Hoppa, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as director, National Maritime Intelligence Center, Washington, D.C.  Hoppa is currently serving as chief of staff for intelligence, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.

            Capt. John G. King, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as commander, Naval Inventory Control Point, Philadelphia/Mechanicsburg, Philadelphia, Pa.  King is currently serving as deputy commander for fleet logistics operations, N4, Naval Supply Systems Command, Mechanicsburg, Pa.

            Capt. David M. Kriete, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as director, joint operations, N3, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.  Kriete is currently serving as chief of staff, U.S. Strategic Command Special Activities Atlantic, Norfolk, Va.

            Capt. William C. McQuilkin, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as commander, Navy Region Korea/commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea/commander, Naval Component, U.S. Forces Korea, United Nations Command, Korea.   McQuilkin is currently serving as deputy director, Strategy and Policy Division, N512, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.

            Capt. Dewolfe H. Miller III, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as director, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, N2/N6F2, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.  Miller previously served as commanding officer, USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77), Norfolk, Va. 

            Capt. Stuart B. Munsch, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as deputy director, Submarine Warfare Division, N87B, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.  Munsch is currently serving as branch head, Strategy and Policy Division, N514, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.

            Capt. Kenneth M. Perry, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as vice commander, Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command, San Diego, Calif.  Perry is currently serving as executive assistant, Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, Stuttgart, Germany.

            Capt. Fernandez L. Ponds, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as commander, Navy Region Hawaii/commander, Naval Surface Group, MIDPAC, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  Ponds is currently serving as deputy director, Navy Special Projects, N3/N5NSP, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.

            Capt. John C. Scorby, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as commander, Navy Region Southeast, Jacksonville, Fla.  Scorby is currently serving as executive assistant to the assistant secretary of the Navy for energy, installations, and environment, Washington, D.C.

            Capt. Michael E. Smith, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as director, Strategy and Policy Division, N51, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.  Smith is currently serving as executive assistant to the commander, U.S. Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.

            Capt. Hugh D. Wetherald, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as deputy and chief of staff for plans, policies, and requirements, N5/N8, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  Wetherald was previously assigned as head, Program Development Branch, N801, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.
