Navy Officer Nominations Dated January 2011

Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:

Navy Reserve Rear Adm. (lower half) George W. Ballance has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral. Ballance is currently serving as deputy commander, 7th Fleet, Yokosuka, Japan.

Navy Reserve Rear Adm. (lower half) Mark J. Belton has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral. Belton is currently serving as reserve director, Supply, Ordnance and Logistics Operations Division, N41, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.

Navy Reserve Rear Adm. (lower half) Robin R. Braun has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral. Braun is currently serving as deputy for operations/battle staff director, U.S. European Command, Stuttgart, Germany.

Navy Reserve Rear Adm. (lower half) Russell S. Penniman IV, has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral. Penniman is currently serving as deputy reserve commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Navy Reserve Rear Adm. (lower half) Gary W. Rosholt has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral. Rosholt is currently serving as deputy commander, Special Operations Command, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced today the following assignments:

Rear Adm. (lower half) Joseph P. Aucoin, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral, will be assigned as director, Programming Division, N80, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C. Aucoin is currently serving as commander, Carrier Strike Group Three, Bremerton, Wash.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Craig S. Faller will be assigned as commander, Carrier Strike Group Three, Bremerton, Wash. Faller is currently serving as commander, Navy Recruiting Command, Millington, Tenn.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Nicholas T. Kalathas will be assigned as commander, Joint Theater Support Contracting Command, U.S. Central Command, Kabul, Afghanistan. Kalathas is currently serving as Department of Defense Contingency program manager for operations contract support, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics, Washington, D.C.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Harold E. Pittman will be assigned as director of communication/strategic effects, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan / NATO's International Security and Assistance Force - Afghanistan. Pittman is currently serving as director of strategic communications, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Jonathan A. Yuen will be assigned as director, logistics and security assistance, J4, U.S. European Command, Stuttgart, Germany. Yuen is currently serving as deputy chief of staff for logistics, fleet supply and ordnance, N4, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced today the following assignments:

Rear Adm. Donald P. Quinn will be assigned as commander, Naval Education and Training Command, Pensacola, Fla. Quinn is currently serving as commander, Navy Personnel Command, Millington, Tenn.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Margaret A. Rykowski will be assigned as deputy fleet surgeon, U.S. Fleet Forces Command/deputy director, Nurse Corps, Reserve Component, Norfolk, Va. Rykowski is currently serving as fleet surgeon, Third Fleet, San Diego, Calif.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Troy M. Shoemaker will be assigned as commander, Carrier Strike Group Nine, Everett, Wash. Shoemaker is currently serving as assistant commander, Navy Personnel Command for career management, PERS-4, Navy Personnel Command, Millington, Tenn.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced today the following assignments:

Capt. Thomas E. Beeman, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as deputy director, National Intrepid Center of Excellence/deputy director, Medical Service Corps, Reserve Component, National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md. Beeman is currently serving as deputy chief of staff, Reserve Component for Wounded, Ill, and Injured, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Washington, D.C.

Rear Adm. John N. Christenson will be assigned as president, Naval War College, Newport, R.I. Christenson is currently serving as president, Board of Inspection and Survey, Norfolk, Va.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Cynthia A. Covell will be assigned as commander, Navy Personnel Command, Millington, Tenn. Covell is currently serving as director, Total Force Requirements, N12, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Peter A. Gumataotao will be assigned as commander, Carrier Strike Group Eleven, San Diego, Calif. Gumataotao is currently serving as commander, Navy Region Korea/commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea/commander, Naval Component, U.S. Forces Korea, United Nations Command, Korea.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Charles D. Harr will be assigned as deputy to the medical officer to the Marine Corps/deputy director, Medical Corps, Reserve Component, Washington, D.C. Harr is currently serving as commanding officer for Medical Battalion, Marine Forces Reserve Headquarters, Washington, D.C.

Rear Adm. Gerard P. Hueber will be assigned as commander, Expeditionary Strike Group Three/commander, Amphibious Group Three, San Diego, Calif. Hueber is currently serving as deputy chief of staff for strategy, resources, and plans, N5/N8, U.S. Naval Forces Europe/U.S. Naval Forces Africa/Sixth Fleet, Naples, Italy.

Capt. Kenneth J. Norton, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as deputy chief of staff for strategy, resources, and plans, N5/N8, U.S. Naval Forces Europe/U.S. Naval Forces Africa/Sixth Fleet, Naples, Italy. Norton is currently serving as special assistant to the commander, Naval Air Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet, San Diego, Calif.

Rear Adm. Sean A. Pybus will be assigned as commander, Naval Special Warfare Command, San Diego, Calif. Pybus is currently serving as commander, Special Operations, U.S. Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.
