Army General Officer Nominations dtd January 2011
The Chief of Staff, Army announced today the following assignments:
Maj. Gen. Kevin R. Wendel, deputy director, operations, U.S. Africa Command, Germany to commanding general, First Army Division East, Fort Meade, Md.
Brig. Gen. Jeffrey N. Colt, commander, Joint Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center of Excellence, Indian Springs Airfield, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada to deputy commanding general, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Brig. Gen. Terry R. Ferrell, to commanding general, National Training Center and Fort Irwin, Fort Irwin, Ca. He most recently served as assistant division commander (Maneuver), 2d Infantry Division, Eighth U.S. Army, Korea.
Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:
Lt. Gen. Mark P. Hertling for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany. Hertling is currently serving as deputy commanding general, initial military training, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Va.
Maj. Gen. John M. Bednarek for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as the commanding general, First U.S. Army, Fort Gillem, Ga. Bednarek is currently serving as the commanding general, First Army Division East, Fort Meade, Md.
Maj. Gen. Susan S. Lawrence for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as chief information officer/G-6, Office of the Secretary of the Army, Washington, D.C. Lawrence most recently served as commanding general, U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command Fort Huachuca, Ariz.
Maj. Gen. Francis J. Wiercinski for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Pacific, Fort Shafter, Hawaii. Wiercinski most recently served as commanding general, U.S. Army Japan/commanding general, I Corps (Forward), Japan.
Army Reserve Brig. Gen. William M. Buckler Jr. has been nominated for appointment to the grade of major general and assignment as commander, (troop program unit), 412th Engineer Command, Vicksburg, Miss. Buckler is currently serving as deputy commander, (Troop Program Unit), 412th Engineer Command, Vicksburg, Miss., assistant chief of staff, engineer, Eighth U.S. Army, Yongsan, Korea.
Army Reserve Brig. Gen. Mark J. MacCarley has been nominated for appointment to the grade of major general as commander, (troop program unit), U.S. Army Support Command/deputy commanding general, First Army, Ft. Gillem, Ga.
Army Reserve Col. Arlen R. Royalty has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general and assignment as commander, (troop program unit), 95th Training Division, (Initial Entry Training), Oklahoma City, Okla. He is currently serving as deputy chief of staff, G-3, (troop program unit), 108th Training Command (Initial Entry Training), Charlotte, N.C.
