Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:

Army Lt. Gen. Ricky Lynch has been nominated for reappointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as assistant chief of staff for installation management/ commanding general, Installation Management Command, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. Lynch is currently serving as commanding general, III Corps and Fort Hood, Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Maj. Gen. Michael D. Barbero has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as commander, Multi-National Security Transition Command Iraq and commander, NATO Training Mission Iraq, U.S. Central Command. Barbero is currently serving as commanding general, U.S. Army Infantry Center and Fort Benning/commandant, U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Ga.

Brig. Gen. Joseph Anderson, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Recruiting Command, Fort Knox, Ky., to chief of staff, Multi-National Force-Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.

Brig. Gen. Frederick B. Hodges, deputy chief, legislative liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Army, Washington, D.C., to deputy commander - stability, Regional Command South, International Security Assistance Force, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.

Brig. Gen. Gerald W. Ketchum, Army National Guard, deputy director for operations, readiness and mobilization, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C., to director, J-7, commander, Standing Joint Forces Headquarters, U.S. Southern Command, Miami, Fla.

The following Army General Officer nominations were confirmed by the Senate on 19 June 2009:

Lieutenant General David M. Rodriguez, United States Army, for reappointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as Deputy Commander, United States Forces Afghanistan, OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, Afghanistan. He is currently serving as Senior Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, DC.

Major General Robert W. Cone, United States Army, for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as Commanding General, III Corps and Fort Hood, Fort Hood, Texas. He is currently serving as Special Assistant to the Commanding General, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Virginia.

Major General Dennis L. Via, United States Army, for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as Director for Command, Control, Communications and Computer (C4) Systems, J-6, The Joint Staff, Washington, DC. He is currently serving as Commanding General, United States Army Communications-Electronics Life Cycle Management Command and Fort Monmouth, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.

Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has nominated:

Major General Robert W. Cone, United States Army, for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as Commanding General, III Corps and Fort Hood, Fort Hood, Texas. He is currently serving as Special Assistant to the Commanding General, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Virginia.

The following United States Army Reserve officers have been confirmed for promotion to the next higher grade as a result of the 2009 General Officer Promotion Selection Board.
